Art Collection DescriptionThe Gallery is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Japanese art in Canada, historical collections featuring Canadian and international works, and exceptional contemporary art. On permanent display is the work of British Columbia's foremost historical artist Emily Carr encompassing paintings, excerpts from her books and archival images offering an insightful look at this inspiring local artist who captured the BC landscape and the lives of its First Nations peoples in paint. In our Japanese garden, visitors can view the only Shinto Shrine outside Japan. Some fine historical paintings and decorative pieces are also exhibited in the 1889 Spencer Mansion.
